Bob Hawke: misunderstood in memoriam : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 20/5/2019

Death is rarely a matter of good timing but it can be part of a good career move or the perfect conclusion to his political party's attempt to reclaim office.

Whatever the dictionary term of Larrikan is that particular interpretation didn't fit Bob but rather the Australian understanding of likeable rogue.

The election result of an unlikely win for the coalition is down to just a few things.

#1/ Fake polls that allowed the younger uncommitted voter to just sit on the asses and wait for someone else to change it for them and then as always and like Bexit, condemn the result.

#2/ Labors juxtaposition on coal and coal mining and their idiotic ideological rejection of clean safe cheap carbon-free nuclear energy.

#3/ a degree of we've got it in the bag arrogance and lack of authenticity.

The only (I've walked in your shoes) person who can I believe led the party back from the political wilderness is elbow. With ( know it all) Tanya as his deputy. Shorten needs to take up the role of the whip and ensure the party presents a united front and that they are here for us not petty narcissistic over ambitious, personal political plans.

And they need a plan for coal as part of the national energy paradigm. and not as the privatized model of the coalition but rather, that which we used to have when we last had affordable energy.

The loss for the Labor party needs to be understood and we must find a way in a climate change carbon-constrained future for coal. Not anything like current coal-fired power generation.

Nor hugely expensive carbon geosequestration that comes with two things, thousands of miles of pipelines and the most expensive electricity in the world! Something that we can actually afford/do a number of things.

#1/Massively boost local steel production/associated coking coal mining.

#2 Reintroduce genuinely low power prices.

#3/ Ensure all our profits from all future power generation remain here, working in our economy, for us!

#4/ Puts jobs jobs jobs in the bush constructing a national gas grid
As a result of setting this up under a cooperative capitalism model that put the opportunities at the feet of aspirational battlers!

#5/ Create mostly carbon-free energy at prices, the average granny can actually afford. The whole thing paid for over time by more affordable power bills.

Rember well, folk get tired of talking to them selfs (intelligent conversation) or the brick wall that are our so-called representatives.

This solution is too easy and too simple. As simple as cooking the coal in a closed environment with flameless heat. Then piping it to onsite storage facilities. Piping it from there to the end user. Or if distance prevents then railed in bulk rail tankers. To smaller local grids.

Then convert this scrubbed gas to electricity via locally invented ceramic fuel cells. The only moving parts to wear out in this entire construct, are the minor rail options.

Then end user has the option of a bladder storage solution to ensure an enduring continuous supply. As a government funded free market, private enterprise, cooperative capitalist model. As competing for market share, employee co-ops!

That alone will eliminate the unions from our power supply paradigm and associated coal mining, as well as, ensure the very best possible wages and conditions plus the lowest possible power prices! I kid you not.

Plus ensure all the profits and taxes remain here (win-win-win) working for us, the 21st-century Australian community.

Well, that's a relatively pollution free mode of travel.
