Israel like Australia are standout democracies in their own regions.
On the world Democracy Index 2018 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_Index comparing countries on five different categories measuring pluralism, civil liberties and political culture. Where the 1st is the most democratic.
Israel's democracy at 30th rates ahead of
- Belgium, Italy and Greece,
- ahead of all countries in the Middle East, who are almost all dictatorships and absolute monarchies who execute thousands of their own people, especially unfortunate minorities (including Sunnis in Iraq and Syria).
On the Democracy Index Israel's neighbours languish:
Lebanon - 106th
Jordan - 115th
Egypt - 127th
Syria - 166th
