Canadian government’s April Fools Day hoax : Comments

By Tim Ball and Tom Harris, published 17/1/2019

The fear is that if you don't act, the sky will fall. The guilt is that your behavior is part of how humans are destroying the planet.

"Nobody exploits this approach better than environmentalists working as bureaucrats for a government. Normally, the false premise is an integral part of a policy document. However, in an extreme example of this approach, on December 20th, the Government of Canada published a document entitled "Estimated impacts of the Federal Carbon Pollution Pricing System" subtitled, "What carbon pricing means for pollution and the economy". The goal is to justify the federal government's 'carbon tax' policy, which goes into effect on April Fools Day, by claiming it will save money. The problem is that this assumes there is a problem in the first place."

The problem is the Canadian government capitulated to bureaucratic groupthink, hardly the rationale for formulating responsible scientific and economic policy.

Sadly, this extreme example of unsubstantiated problem and crazy policy response is not confined to Canada. This madness abounds in both major political parties in Australia … now very much the 'unlucky country'!

Climate change denialists point to normal cyclical events such as our elliptical orbit and the fact that our sun waxes and wanes, and when it waxes the joint gets hotter and accumulated ice melts at the poles and glaciers. Convrsely, the opposite occurs when it goes into the waning phase and in the past has almost always related to this or that ice age.

Our sun has been in a waning phase since the mid-seventies. (NASA) and during this period, we have seen many heat records broken with 2017 being both a La Nina years and the second hottest. Just a few days ago new heat records were set in South Australia and mos to the country is gripped by enduring heat waves and drought, as evidenced by algae blooms and consequent massive fish kills.

Climate change denialists get more and more hysterical and shill with the mounting evidence that they try and explain away with moronic monotony. And try and equate affirmative action to mitigate against manmade climate change with doomsday economic scenarios. which is not only untrue, but with real leadership, the very opposite would be true, and could even include coal as one of our principle fuels as extracted methane.

Powering most conventional combustion engines, with a subsequent reduction of around 40% of CO2 emission. Without question we can and should exploit Msr thorium, thorium being the most energy dense material on the planet! And delivers everything fusion promised but couldn't deliver.

Moreover, walk away safe, reliable, dispatchable, CARBON-FREE energy we can never ever run out of, it's so abundant!

And that's what terrifies the denialists as they see their fossil fuel dividends dry completely up! And the principle reason, one believes for their rearguard campaign as they seek to belittle the scientists or accuse them of only being in it for the money.

As they judge other folks by their own (greed is good, individualism) fundamentally flawed standards!?

It all depends on what and where you focus or put your attention on.

I much prefer this assessment of the situation:

"Our sun has been in a waning phase since the mid-seventies. (NASA) "

I've asked before but never got an answer from our Thorium cultist, but just for fun....

Do you have any evidence for what is a blatantly incorrect assertion?

Seems like selling yellow vests might be a good business opportunity in Canada. Still, since Canada is a competitor of Australia's in most products, particularly resources, we can only hope they continue to add futile costs to their economy. It can but help our own competitive position, at least until we go down the same path.

Must be some other reason we keep breaking heat records year after year. Canada like Australia is a brazen hypocrite the same time while talking green they both export huge amounts of fossil fuel. Aside from LNG Canada exports tar sand liquids while Australia exports coal. They should carbon tax those exports. At say $50 per tCO2 thermal coal should be taxed 2.4 X $50 = $120 per tonne.

If not all drug dealers should be let out of jail as selling a harmful product will no longer be illegal. In truth Canada might be a bit better off with global warming albeit mushy underfoot. However most other places would prefer no global warming.

Personally I am sick of the tirade of "Its so hot, we are all going to die! This is the hottest year ever!". Been in Australia since 1974 and things seem the same to me. in 1990 whilst talking to the BOM in Melbourne about temperatures and humidity the guy said that the figures were consistent and regular since the turn of the previous century. I also read a bit of history and suggest "Water into Gold" by Ernestine Hill which was written in the 1960's about the irrigation around Mildura. She described droughts which stopped the Murray Darling for years at a time, extreme heat and extreme frosts too.
I do not believe this scare campaign which has given us ruinous power prices and which are a national disgrace.
Perhaps we need a Royal Commission with all the evidence actually put up and attributed. Perhaps too many people would be ruined by this though?

Human beings are retarded.

They are so dumb and easily lead they fall for mass manipulation of the general public.

- You idiots really make advertisers jobs easy -

Why not just teach people about manipulation, and to know when you're being manipulated?

Guilt Card, Blame Card, Victim Card;
Lies, Deceit, Threats, Fear, etc.

All just methods of control used by people to get what they want from those dumb enough to fall for it.

- Teach people this and society might not be in a total state of chaos with mass psychosis -
