Losing users: Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook problems : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 5/11/2018

Facebook, the all-gazing, accumulating system of personal profiles and information, poster child, in fact, of surveillance capitalism, is losing users.

Hardly unexpected! Even so, Facebook has its uses even though you communicate in a goldfish bowl with the world looking on! And your most private thoughts and communication used against you, to market this or that from cars to refrigerators, or the latest must-have, sex toy?

What's is missing on Facebook is privacy, a moral code, and or normal decorum? We keep some of the shams we call a moral code while letting all else rip? And all in the name of commercialism and making a buck for Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook!.

Where does this greed is good and anything goes, end?

Facebook: the selling of alternate community.

Facebook went flying out the back door long ago, with the TV set, newspapers and radio.

If what you want is a world where homosexuals marry each other, go for it; but leave me out of it!

I don't subscribe to facebook but I think Google are pretty bad in regard to advertising. One cannot open a link without some insipid ads, yes not just one but several at the same time on the same page. If others like Firefox or similar search engines were to reduce these ad intrusions they could send Google to centrelink.
Australian News sites too are notorious for asking for subscriptions. They should advertise beforehand if an article requires subscription to read not let you download for 15 seconds each time for nothing.
I would gladly subscribe if ads were done away with but they don't want to do that.
Is it any wonder some people just lose it with so much crap heaped upon us every moment of the day ?
Making money by deception would be deemed illegal in any other industry but not the media it seems.
