Community currencies help energize the local community (as distinct from the speculation and paper-shuffling of much of the high-end banking sector).

There are at present in the UK several local currencies.
Totnes is probably the best known. The Totnes Pound is issued at
the bank and the result is the profits of spending the money in the
town keeps the wealth in the town & district.

It is quite a practical idea.

speculation breeds corruption of the economy. It's why people are homeless and landless in this Country. These silly currency games are not for them!

If the economy is being properly managed, there should be no need for community currencies.
