Why US must expand forces in Syria : Comments

By Alon Ben-Meir, published 4/6/2018

The US cannot impact the development of events in Syria without a credible and strong military backing to deter any adversary.

As far as I know, both Russia and Iran have been invited into Syria by the democratically elected leaders of Syria.

It's the US and coalition forces who operate in Syria illegally without a UN mandate or a congressional declaration of war.

If you want US and its Allies to send their kids to fight and die for Israel you should pick up a gun yourself.

If Israel and the US think they can do whatever they like on foreign soils then they both deserve to get nuked.

And if Israel thinks it can take the land from Palestinians using conquest and ethnic cleansing in God's name, then it deserves nothing, except to be vanquished.

The U.S interferes in Syria, and in goes Australia. More misuse of our defence forces, and more "refugees". Leave Syria to sort out its own problems. The idiots in Canberra haven't learned a thing from Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.

There's no easy solution here Alon and the only thing the west can do to end these hostilities is to stop funding them i.e., stop buying oil!
And instead fully embrace MSR thorium, endless biogas and its range of energy derivatives!
Along with the sanity of cooperative capitalism!
Other than that, start Armageddon by nuking Assad?

The US already has forces in Syria in YPG controlled territory to assist the Kurds who have been successfully battling ISIS and have successfully defended them against attempted incursions by Assad's forces.

However, trying to go further into areas controlled by Russia would escalate the war and could only be proposed by an idiot.

Ttbn & SM,

If the US withdrew its troops from Syria and Iraq, Iran would have control of the area from Afghanistan to the Mediterranean. It could more easily menace Israel and attack the Kurds, along with Turkey. Once the Kurds were wiped out as a fighting force, it could turn all its attention to Israel. But the Sunni powers, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Jordan, etc. would baulk at the notion of Shi'ite control of so much territory and launch wars against Iran and Syria. Then it would be on for young and old.

Perhaps the Yanks don't have to stay in Syria, strictly speaking, but certainly in Iraq, somewhere in the region, in order to hinder political developments towards Iranian control of that swathe of territory. Jesus, I never thought I'd be writing this :)

A war between Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims, and pitting Arabs and Turks against Arabs and Persians (Iranians) (and everybody against the poor bloody Kurds) would make what has happened in Syria look like a minor skirmish. An American presence would hinder all of this. My god, I'm suggesting the US is a force for relative peace. My mum would be horrified.

wouldn't it be cheaper to put a fence around that joint & nothing goes in & nothing comes out. Twelve months on there'll be peace.
These people cannot live without having others die for or because of them on a daily basis. Put a stop to this idiocy by the cheapest method, a fence.

Hi Individual,

So who would build it ? Would there be any objections from any of the multitude of interested parties ? Yes, if Trump could meet with all of them and talk them into it. Gosh, that might work.
