An insider's view on Chinese buyers : Comments

Unlike those cash-loaded, overseas Chinese buyers you see at property auctions, my wife and I are new migrants living on monthly Australian salaries.

I can see a case for excluding foreign buyers from the residential market completely! If only to avoid the outcomes in Ireland and Spain!

Moreover, we need to stop thinking of essential services as markets that can be profit gouged by debt laden foreigners.

Sure, foreigners should be able to relocate here and buy here.

Relocating, would first and foremost, allow us to investigate their characters and standing as potential worthy citizens!

Housing must be returned to the status of a human right to affordable shelter! Otherwise we stand, with an aiding and abetting governments/realtors, to become forelock tugging tenants in our own land!

As the Author notes, the Chinese cannot buy land in their own land, so why should they be able to do so here, without being subject to the same character examination of intending migrants?

Foreigners should be able to relocate here and RENT or LEASE here. Why shoud they be able tobuy Australian Land?

Dont give me the crap about "don't worry, they cant take it away" Because in that case they dont need to buy it then DO they, They only need to rent it or lease it dont they?

Thanks for your insider view, Barry. You correctly identified the political influence of developers, but failed to connect this with why Chinese non-residents are allowed to invest in Australian property. It has nothing to do with generating jobs here, and everything to do with delivering mega-profits to the developers who got the pollies preselected and paid for their election campaign. The fact that it's impoverishing the next generation of Australians is of no concern to them, despite their crocodile-tears about housing affordability - and despite swearing on the bible to serve the public interest. There should be no real estate sales, residential, commercial or rural, to anyone who is not a permanent resident.
