Sex abuse in Catholic institutions: key questions for the royal commission : Comments

By Brendan O'Reilly, published 3/4/2017

The figures were even higher for some orders of religious brothers: 40% for the Brothers of St John of God, 22% for the Christian Brothers, and 20% for the Marist Brothers.

93% of of Catholic priests were NOT accused of child sex crimes.

However, the references to canon law and “rules of the Catholic Church”, and the “limited capacity of canon law to discipline offending priests” raises the real problem with the Catholic Church.

How dare they even dream that their piddling internal 'laws' should be dealing with serious crimes committed by their personnel! What other organisation in a rule-of-law country thinks that it is proper for it to deal with matters which, legally, should be referred to police? No wonder some churchmen are ambivalent towards the introduction of Islamic sharia law.

There is the ethos of Christianity, then there is organised Christianity. There is a gap between the two.

The only religion or way of life which ever way you see it is budist. All religions need banning and abolished from the face of the earth.

Pure and Infallible Catholic Orders should remain confident that only a minority are charged, and fewer gaoled, for their activities against the young.

The Pope, in any case is infallible [1] in making sure no incriminating details escape vaults of records in the Vatican. Records of the suspicions-of and crimes-of the man-Priests and man-Brothers against the young.

It would play on the minds of the worshippers who, in Total, place $Billions in hard earned collection monies toward the Gold Edged Glory of the Vatican

That being the Vatican that, naturally imposes Vows of Poverty on those outside the Vatican Walls. Are those who count the $Billions still unfit or are they too powerful?

it seems like the biggest critics of the Catholic church are now pushing the grooming ' safe schools' program. Have the sacked paedophile priests joined the education department?

The curse inflicted onto society by homosexuals, is what goes unchallenged in any debate on the subject of child sexual abuse inside institutions in Australia.

Dealing more ruthlessly with homosexuals in society would be a positive approach to solving this dilemma .

Certainly the Catholic flock are more than a support system for Shepherds who established the whole culture of protection for paedophile Priests.

- particularly when a rambling, ambling chappie ruled over us - for the benefit of some. Listen to your wife you good Catholic family man http://youtu.be/XJfsKavHsm8 .

I used to work in a section of the public service which produced recruitment reports, among other things. We were very aware that putting any restrictions on recruitment rapidly lowered the quality of the pool of available candidates, not merely by excluding some people, but by alienating some of those who would otherwise apply. Skilled people don't have to put up with crap; they can go elsewhere.

The recruitment process for Catholic priests automatically excludes half the available working population. The religious requirement excludes at least 75% of the remaining half. Imposing a celibacy vow restricts candidates still further, to three small groups: those who are, or think they are, asexual, those capable of extreme self-delusion, and those who are prepared to openly lie. It's hardly surprising that the quality of the resulting priesthood is so low.

In the past the Catholic Church offered a comfortable career to bright working-class boys who would otherwise have been toiling in factories or on farms. The demand comfortably outstripped the supply, and they were able to take the best. Now they're in a much more competitive market, and they have to take what they can get. By putting up artificial barriers to recruitment, they have largely brought this disaster on themselves.

Exactly Jon j...an active recruitment of homosexuals is the end result. (My point above).

The Catholic Church recruitment model is a very enlightening window into a view of the wider community effect of pandering to homosexuals, under the guise of equality...

I would say as a life long atheist.
Get over it ! The catholics are idiots to submit themselves to all this nonsense and now should be the day of reckoning. That is drop this stupid cult and get on with life.
Let's tax all religions but especially hammer the people who protect and support Islam. This is the upcoming child abuse in the making.
There is a disgusting group of pollies and media who want to stop me from having an opinion that religion is all complete nonsense and fantasy. You nutters can believe what you want but facists like the MP on Q & A last night who supports 18C and wants no one to be allowed to criticise Islam can take a hike.
