So essentially thanks to labor's self interest preferential voting has been re introduced and One Nation's large 1PP makes winning impossible without a preference vote deal.

Unsurprisingly Labor was the first out the gate to try and get a preference deal, but given that labor has swung so far to the left and have been the most vociferously bagging the greens, this is unlikely.

A preference deal with the Coalition and assuming that labor preferences the coalition above ON, the coalition should get enough seats to govern in their own right, ON will get a handful of seats, but labor will be the big losers.

If the major parties are worried about one nation, then they need to stop giving it oxygen!

We live in a democracy that manipulates the voting intentions of the voters to the point, where as many of 85% of the electors voting intentions are completely stymied and are lumbered with representatives few would have selected, even in their wildest dreams.

Moreover, the expressed wish of the majority are routinely ignored or babbled away into a never ever land far far away into the future!
Where the costs are doubled!

When future vision and resolute unwavering action are called for? We get absolute resistance to new ideas or action!?

And the elites looking after the elites or union heavies looking after corrupt cronies or mates!

Say what you like about Joh, (corruption etc/etc) but he got things done in the most decentralized state and left us with a (chalked up) modest year on year surplus?

Time for a change!

Competence, even if it includes, greasing the wheels, manageable corruption or honest incorruptible politicians?

The latter only available with regular new broom sweeps clean, complete cleanouts!

Labor if it wants to maintain any credibility should not preference the greens. If labor and coalition preferenced each other before fringe parties then the fringe parties such as ON and the Greens would shrink rapidly.

I suspect that how Trump performs in the US and the status of Brexit may end up being factors if the election is around a year away.

There is a sizeable number of people wanting a change from the status quo. One nation has I think some potential to capitalise on that just for not being the others.

A serious failure by Trump to deliver could take some of that away although if that failure looks like the result of sabotage by the usual suspects then possibly the reverse with people even more determined to send them a wake up call. The danger for those determined to stop Trump at any cost is that they may just deepen the dissatisfaction that got him elected in the first place.

It will probably be way to early to judge on Brexit however it's a possible player.

Until the main parties start addressing the concerns that are driving the calls for big change in a meaningful and honest manner they won't make the problem go away.

Pauline Hanson would be great if she had the ability to be. But she continually fires the six gun before removing from its holster!
Clive Palmer was an alternative nobody mentions now. Problem is, having no high profile alternative to Hanson will force votes back to main parties.
