Foxy,

I know Loewenstein is a darling of the anti-Israel crowd, but I really would be taking everything he writes with a coupla grains of salt...and then lamenting the waste of good salt.

Case in point from your quote..."2017 is the 50th Anniversary of Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory." While technically correct, simply saying 1967 was an occupation is like saying the US occupied Japan in 1945 without mentioning WW2 or Pearl Harbour. Technically true but designed to do nothing other than deceive.

Quintessential Loewenstein.

Dear mhaze,

Loewenstein has been accused of being anti-Israel
and hostile towards the Jewish people. Nothing could
be further from the truth. He (and I) supports the
rights of Israelis to live in peace and security, but
not at the expense of the Palestinians. As Loewenstein
asks - "Why do we constantly hear about Israel's need for
"security," as though that justifies erecting walls,
checkpoints and barriers? Why is the world told to
believe that the Palestinians should only accept peace on
Israel's terms?"

Loewenstein states, "I've come to the sad realisation that
many in the West simply don't like Arabs or Palestinians
very much and therefore believe that we have the right to
treat them as we wish."

Of course in all this the news media play a crucial role
since they are the major conduit for the debate.

Publishing dissenting arguments on the Israel-Palestine conflict
guarantees an abusive and vitriolic response. Loewenstein
has experienced plenty of such responses. However, we
should be grateful that despite that he realises the
importance of continuing to speak uncomfortable truths.

We cannot allow the message that anyone who criticises
Israel should receive threats and abuse. You are either with
us or against us.

Loewenstein tells us that "it is time for a radical
rethinking of the conflict." Although if the USA continues
in its unwavering support of Israel - as I stated earlier
I doubt whether this will happen.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Trump say it was too early to be thinking about that "yet"? Emphasis 'yet'

I'm concerned Israel might attack Iran and drag us all into a war, whilst also completing their total land theft of Palestine.
Ukraine could start a war on Russia's doorstep as well to keep them occupied.
