Making America great again? : Comments

By Babette Francis, published 5/12/2016

There has been enough egg on the faces of journalists both of the Left and the Right since Donald Trump's win to make several omelettes, and not particularly savoury omelettes at that.

"The journalists of the Right..."

At first that this reference to the "Right" seemed a typo, but then, Babette Francis had mentioned that journalists of both the Left and the Right have egg on their faces.

Greg Sheridan, one of the best conservative commentators, had failed to comprehend that Trump was on the road to victory. But so did the American writer P J O'Rourke, who's personal dislike for Trump over-rode his usual perspicacity. And there was no academic or "think tank" commentator in the whole of Australia who supported Trump, as far as I'm aware. Even conservative commentators who thought Trump had some small chance, felt obliged to say that, of course, he is a terrible individual.

A friend of mine, who regards himself as conservative, throughout the presidential primaries and the campaign backed Clinton and explained his animosity to Trump as "he's a scumbag", without ever being able to explain why. I had a bet with him back in March that Trump would win. And I persuaded him to doubled it three weeks before the election.

Trump's victory should have been expected after Brexit, Turnbull's near death experience and the poll failures in the Australian and UK elections. Then there's Merkel's Europe and the political cadaver Obama left behind.

The turnout of supporters at rallies (800,000 plus) swamped those turning out for Clinton (a few thousand). Trump dared the "crooked" TV crews to pan around the venues and show his crowds and Clinton's. They refused, fostering the illusion that her few hundred here and there were the equivalent of Trumps thousands. If you're getting that many to a rally, you're going to get a big turnout on voting day. And they duly did turnout.

The PC media - the same mob who lied about Trump daily, laughed at his supporters, like Ann Coulter, colluded with Clinton in the presidential debates and actively campaigned against Trump against every journalistic principle - now talk about a post-truth world, as though their post-truth campaign had nothing to do with it. Clinton's "deplorables" speech, was the cherry on the cake.

I think we have all had it now with the Trump thing, and this is a good article to finish with. The biggest, most enlightening thing, post the U.S election is the appalling, childish, dummy spit performance of the ignorant Left. What unworldly, know-nothing, arrogant ignoramuses the Left are. And Babette Francis has a point about the Right commentators, too; they don't seem to be any more in tune with the majority of people than are the Left. The elites of both Left and Right, are so in love with themselves and the sound of their own voices, that they give no credit at all to Joe and Janet Blogs, who know what they feel and think, and vote how they damn well please in the privacy of the voting booth. Now, after Brexit and Trump, and the unseemly carry on by dissenters who hate democracy, and hate to lose, Joe and Janet will be even more determined to quietly have their say, irrespective of what the buffoons tell them. It's to be hoped that the disgust with self-appointed elites will be carried on the the Left-racist recognise referendum when it comes up.

we are just waiting for Australia's turn. I mean the choice between Shorten and Turnbull. Can you believe these fools are again looking at a breathing tax.

Great? Like the very best democracy money can buy? Or Great again like during the Great Depression? And very much on the table with an increased spend coupled to massively reduced revenue and a deficit blowout with no comparable example in human history!

A calculated gamble, even so, and maybe the circuit breaker needed if focused exclusively on building new income generating stuff!

Like say new thorium power plants to roll out the missing element essential to repair the damaged economy? Cheap abundant energy!

And with it, truly affordable desalination projects that put commercially viable water on arid deserts! Egg on faces, mine included! Eggzactly!

Troubling is the legally assisted resistance to a recount in several dubious seats?

Nonetheless, the democrats have nobody but themselves to blame!

Preferencing Hillary ahead of vastly more popular socialist Bernie! Inmates in charge of the asylum lunacy!

Clearly, the change the voters hunger for is a return to egalitarianism and putting your own national interest and a rudimentary fair go, first and foremost!

As opposed to a bargain basement fire sale of the economic sovereignty, espoused by globalists, with world order aspirations? (I'm Kevin and I'm here to help)

America is bent and bowed but unbroken!

Even so, a downward spiral toward the lowest common denominator? May have all but run its course? And when you're on the bottom, the only way left is up!

But with Trump at the helm and heading for a the rocks, may need to get a lot worse, before they begin to recover, if that's ever going to be possible, in such a hugely divided against itself, house?

And that's going to need a lot of tea party advocates on their financial knees and joining the tent city and soup kitchen lines, before they realize there's only so many bales of cotton in a slave, so many gallons of milk in a cow and or, only so many eggs in a chicken; some of which need to be fertilized and allowed to hatch if only to have enough eggs, or indeed, chickens coming home to roost!

I wonder if this Babette Francis has ever met the very slimy Italian commentator Oriana Felici? I hear an echo.

At this point in history, Trump at least does not have the blood of innocent children, families and loved ones on his conscience record. HRC on the other hand has been complicit in many dirty deals...Libya to mention just one.

As Major General Smedley Butler would have said: "War is a racket".

The incumbent US administration are racketeers of the highest order.

An interesting Article .

Pity that the abortion opinions kept appearing thus making it merely anti-abortion propaganda

Well, the Trump election and brexit vote are interesting, but useless unless the birth rate triples at least, otherwise its been a giant waste of time.

Yes the "conservative" psychopaths who are now in charge are going to make Amerika "great" again.
Google the topic - Narcissist-in-Chief:The Psychopathology That Explains Donald Trumps Depravity

And what we now going to see is all of the negative phenomenon pointed to in these essays (written 12 years or so ago) ratcheted up to the nth degree.

On ABC Radio National (Late Night Live) - Thursday 1 December 2016 Phillip Adams interviewed Dr David Runciman, Professor of Politics at the Department of Politics and International Studies, University of Cambridge. The title of that segment was: "How democracy ends".

Whatever you may think of Mr. Adams, the interview was a particularly interesting summary of the Trump election, and even more important: what may follow. I recommend it for what is perhaps a unique view of that Election. Link below:

The rational right join together with the rational left against irrationalism. The far right take from all sides, ex-socialist , ex-capitalists, So it becomes rational versus irrational and not left versus right as we have always known it.

And he is a fascist the question is whether there are enough democratic barriers for him to become a fully active fascist in office. The denial is silly, clear as day.

Wow what a travesty of truth and distortions in this article but for me the best was "That reference to Hillary Clinton prioritizing children suggests Cogan did not concentrate on her willingness to have babies aborted up to one day before their due date of birth by having their skulls crushed. There are hundreds of these third-trimester abortions in the USA."

Sheer fantasy! Roe vs Wade only allows for abortion (by choice) up to "viability". The only third-trimester abortions are where the health of the mother is severely threatened by continuation of the pregnancy. In the overall population of pregnancies in the US a figure of a few hundred terminations for medical reasons would appear to be lower than might be expected. It is also worth noting that abortion in the US has been on a constant decline since 1981.

Trump wins despite Russia interfering with elections. Cry babies carry on. Benjamin Netanyahu also won despite Obamas interference in Israel.
