Your maths fail is due to one nation getting 1.2% of quota and a hefty flow of preferences. Using your same maths the Greens would have only got 3 senate seats. While a DD favours the minor parties, the new senate preference laws doesn't. The estimated number of cross bench senators if the preference laws were not changed was 18 not 14. It also didn't help that both the liberals and Labor did poorly, getting 65% of first preferences.

The main reasons that one nation did so well are the concerns by voters of the rise of Islamic extremism that Labor and the Greens are pretending don't exist, and the general trend of all parties to the left which leaves a niche for One Nation.

Hanson's and the two idiots one of whom is from his public utterances is certifiable the other should never had been on the ticket because of legal problems which may see him jailed.

Politicians and political parties are an anachronism.

We have been nearly 16 weeks without a government, and if politicians are paid on average $3k per week, then politicians were paid nearly $50,000 to do nothing for 16 weeks.

That $50,000 would be the wage many people receive after working a whole year, yet politicians got that money to do nothing.

Time to throw most politicians out, and bring in citizen's assemblies instead.

The Australian Federal Police are also currently considering allegations of Abbott’s 1998 unlawful activity in light of a submission and evidence supplied by Ettridge to the Attorney General, Mark Dreyfus, some weeks ago, where Ettridge sought a Parliamentary enquiry into Abbott’s involvement with the Australians for Honest Politics Trust and also for the offence of misfeasance in public office.

His submission was referred by the Attorney General to the Federal Police for examination.
