Turnbull sworn in as PM but election victory remains pyrrhic : Comments

By Glen Anderson, published 21/7/2016

If this is the case, the Coalition's long held electoral advantage on matters of economic management will be thoroughly destroyed.

Yes, agreed, a Pyrrhic victory in very difficult economic circumstances, it's probably a good time to be in opposition.

One of the most successful propaganda lines that the Coalition runs is that the LNP is a good economic manager, basically they have no idea. The focus is on the budget and the problem of 'budget repair', it's easy to convince the voters that's what economic management is all about, it isn't. Because of the neoliberal ideology of most members of the Coalition, the 'solution' to a recession will be more 'austerity' for lower income earners and tax cuts for the plutocracy, with obvious consequences for employment and growth. Those Coalition voting members of the middle class, who thought that someone else would pay the price, will be in for a very difficult time indeed.

Pyrrhus eventually gave up and went home, we can always hope.

The country needs indicative planning and an end to this neoliberal nonsense, otherwise the nation will stay as a commodity exporter for generations and gradually slide into the Third World.

Tracts about Turnbull and his 'pyrrhic victory' have been two bob a dozen since that supremely arrogant but incompetent creature stumbled across the line looking very foolish. Most of them coming from people who would have been in the Allbull cheer squad.

"These are not the end of Turnbull's problems"? Forget Allbull's problems. The real problems are our problems, the overriding one being that our country will be rudderless for the next three years, thanks to a wealthy madman who thought that it would be a nice passtime to use the country and it's people as his playthings until he got tired of the game. He was encouraged by media scribblers and the anarchists of the left, who have been trying to break Australia for a long time. It seems that they and Allbull are pretty close to achieving that now.

Dr. Anderson(PhD in law in 2009 for his doctoral thesis, The Legality of Unilateral Non-Colonial Secession in International Law)with his arrogant reference to the Pyrrhic War (see Wikipedia: The Pyrrhic War (280–275 BC) was a complex series of battles and shifting political alliances among the Greeks (specifically Epirus, Macedonia, and the city states of Magna Graecia), the Italian peoples (primarily the Roman Republic, Samnites and the Etruscans), and the Carthaginians) is why so many voted against the major parties.

The Election result is good for most Australians because Turnbull won't be able to get his Big End of Town economic legislation through the hung Senate.

The Senate will punish him if he attempts to starve average Australians of health, education and welfare funding.

Tax protection for multinational profit shifters and tax cuts for the rich will be blocked or whittled down in the Senate.

Also the Senate makeup bodes ill for any of the grim Conservatives who, in a Party Room spill, attempt to kick Turnbull out of the PM job.

A good result.
