The seriously hilarious Americanisation of the Australian theatre audience : Comments

By Richard Stanton, published 3/5/2016

We Boomers don't like anyone taking the piss out of us. We worked very hard to get where we are and we take seriously the concepts of global warming, unemployment and migration.

You can sick of irony. Not all boomers are middle class. Some of us get sacked in our 50s. No whopping super to fund us into smug self retirement. No job interviews unless you conceal your age on your CV, and then you watch the interviewers' eyes glaze over after their first look at you. If you're lucky, a rubbish job on $21 per hour casual rates. Otherwise the crushing humiliation of Newstart. No personal budget to maintain the body beautiful. Getting shafted for being a smug boomer. 35 years of neoliberalism on which to reminisce.

This must be a new thing, criticising the audience for not being appreciative of the product of the writing talent being praised fulsomely by the said critic.

It's the audience's fault, apparently.

Novel.

If anyone is taking the piss, it is the ironic Author?

My compliments, very well done sir, and most of it went completely over the heads of previous posters without even parting the hair.

Satire is difficult where the subject is stale.

From the sound of it, the actors are troopers, doing their courageous best.

It comes as quite a shock to me to find some Australians are up set with something American because Australians by and large are mildly desperate to consider anything American as superior to anything Australian.

e.g Aussie rules players used to play in defense, now they play 'down back' things used to be 'its finished' now 'Its done." I could go on.

Thank you for the heads up.

One to avoid at all costs.

Wow! I never realised how important it is, [to some plastic people], whether an audience of people silly enough to waste their money on a play by a B grade playwright, didn't like it.

Just as well I've been informed, or I might have thought other things were a little more important.
