>Australia has a proud history of multiculturalism,
Early history of Australia shows that is not exactly true. The English discriminated against the Irish and Scotts and the Chinese. People of German Heritage and Italian heritage were interned during the Second world war. It has been slow progress and in terms of history it is only in relative recent times that have we began to embrace our multicultural heritage. Posted by Wolly B, Monday, 23 November 2015 11:00:36 AM

The author, luv a, looks like a nice lady.
But there is a Difference between Catholic or Buddhist Vietnamese refugees, Aborigines (who already live here) and young Muslim males. There is a strong correlation between terrorism in Australia and young Muslim males. Alienated and inspired by ISIS online propaganda. Many of these males cannot be usefully security checked when they come to Australia because they are under 10 or not even born. They are growing up here, steadily more radicalised, in increasing numbers. The Government's promise it will "security check" all Syrian refugees is therefore ineffective even before it starts. This is because the threat develops years after entry to Australia. Is it a problem Australians should boost by bringing in 12,000 more? The Government even failed to identify the risk from Sydney seige Monis. Identifying 15 year olds is even more difficult. So have a cup of tea Margaret. Seems like a reasonable assessment of the situation that all of humankind is now in. It has quite a bit of congruence with this essay:
http://www.dabase.org/p3family.htm And most of the people associated with the multivarious outfits listed here would probably sympathize with it too. http://www.dabase.org/GCF.htm Unfortunately the humanly created world-mummery is (perhaps) to far gone into a downwards spiralling darkness for people of good will to make any positive distance. But then again the author of the first essay tells us that we (that is everybody all at once) can, and must make the necessary changes. He points out that one can either practice the politics of the open hand or the closed (angry) fist. One can either light a candle, or angrily curse and thus deepen the darkness. From the same author - written in 1982.
"The trouble is is that the ancient cultural memes which are now patterning and thus controlling the entire world are now obsolete, and essentially toxic. These memes were once more of less self contained. But for the last 1000 years these cultures and their "holy" books have inevitably entered into more and more open contact and conflict with one another. The result has been a seemingly interminable sequence of absurd wars, all based on the efforts of one or another anciently (or modernly) independent system of mind and culture to achieve a state of power and dominance over all other systems. Historically, Christian-ISM and Islam-ISM are, among religions, the most conspicuous in their consistent pursuit of world wide political power and universal cultural dominance, whereas the capitalistic and communistic political systems, each in league with the amoral and transcultural technical idealism of scientific materialism, are, in the modern era, the most conspicuous secular enterprises engaged in the usual pursuit of global power and dominance. By unconsciously allowing the process of world culture to develop through the never-ending conflict of self-contained systems we have, in effect and in actuality, placed the world in the hands of self-centered lunatics - as if all of the madmen and madwomen who imagine themselves to be Cleopatra, Jesus, or Napoleon were given principal offices in each government and institution in the world. There, all the "holy" books are OUR books, and all of us must go to school and be transformed in our minds by studying the Great Tradition, Only a critical approach to our inherited and traditional cultural and philosophical limitations of mind and action can purify us of the deeply entrenched habit of brute conflict and self-delusion." Unfortunately those that call themselves "conservative" are, everywhere, the most resistant to such necessary trance-formation. They would rather fight to the death, and thus destroy civilization, or what remains of it. Posted by Daffy Duck, Monday, 23 November 2015 2:01:38 PM

What could be Ms. Beavis's "proud multicultural history" when Australia is a multiracial country, which is in keeping with our immigration policy of non-discrimination. No problem: until you intoduce a CULTURE made up of different RACES, which is not sympathetic with Australian CULTURE, also made up from different RACES. In fact, that particular CULTURE, uneccessarily introduced by relativist politicians, is actually intent on destroying the Australian culture.
Culture is a much abused term/word. Culture is too often confused with race. Any race can be infused with a different culture. My racial background is Anglo Saxon, but my culture is Australian. 'Multiculture' is a human 'construct', just another of those that has been proved an abject failure and a great danger to people of all races, in all Western countries - the only places where such foolishness exists. Hi ttbn
Yes very true that there is a correlation between terrorism and large Muslim minorities. Years of liberal-wet voices (like the article author's) have led to a fair number of murders. The London 7/7/2005 bombings 56 dead, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7_July_2005_London_bombings and more recent mass murders in France (hosting even more alienated Muslims) was not done by sweet little old lady doctors. So Clive Williams, terrorism expert, writes in the Canberra Times (Nov 19): "The French Muslim population is estimated at around 10 per cent of the total population (or 6-7 million [Muslims]), but the French jail population is estimated to be around 70 per cent Muslim." "Because of the number of disaffected young Muslim men in France it is relatively easy for IS to inspire them to travel to Syria to fight or to encourage them to mount attacks in France." "According to the Jamestown Foundation it is probable that by the end of 2015, more than 1000 French residents or nationals will have travelled to Syria to join the fighting." "Support in France for IS is greatest among people aged between 18 and 24, with one poll in 2014 suggesting 15 per cent support for IS." Sounds like wet-liberals (the way Malcolm Turnbull is sadly going) will invite in many more Muslim refugees to get to that critical mass of murdering - like Britain and France. Pete,
I read some time ago that 10% of the population being Muslim is the tipping point. Whether or not that is coincidence in the case of France, 2% here is more than enough. Posted by ttbn, Monday, 23 November 2015 6:12:34 PM

Margaret Beavis is another True Believing left wing loony world saver, who's multicultural dream is falling apart. But instead of simply admitting that multiculturalism was the human races biggest mistake since Marx and Engels dreamed up socialism, she is still trying to flog a very dead and smelly horse, while trying to shift the blame on those who opposed her and her comrades all along.
Let's examine our "proud history" of multiculturalism. Australians fleeing ethnic ghettoes with very high rates of welfare dependency and serious criminal behaviour. Australian defence force personnel forbidden to wear their countries uniform in public for fear of attack by the sort of people that Margaret prefers over her own people. Armed guards on Jewish schools. Armed guards on newspaper offices. Six high schools in Sydney now with permanent security guards to protect teachers from out of control Muslim boys. Female teachers refusing to teach in Muslim infested schools. Vietnamese criminals selling $10 dollar heroin "starter kits" to schoolchildren. Massive rorting of 457 visa applications with sex slaves and even real slaves working for a pittance. Slum lords providing disgusting and dangerous accommodation to desperate illegal immigrants. Freedom of Speech curtailed under 18C. Billions of dollars wasted on security, watching people who should never have been allowed to immigrate into Australia in the first place. Australians being shot down in the street, or in coffee shops, by imported religious nut cases. Soccer matches between ethic rivals turning into riots. 70 Australian girls gang raped by Muslim race hate rape packs around the year 2000. Barely a month passes in Sydney without yet another Muslim taxi driver on sexual assault charges. Muslim taxi drivers refusing to take seeing eye dogs, or people carrying alcohol. Add child brides, female circumcisions, polygamous Muslim men demanding welfare payments for all their wives. And last but not least, the Grand Mufti of Australia refusing to acknowledge terrorist incidents caused by Muslims to be "terrorism", and like Margaret, blaming terrorism on it's victims. If Australia is a shining example of multiculturalism, Margaret, then God help the worst. Posted by LEGO, Monday, 23 November 2015 6:39:08 PM

1, multi-CULT-uralism was invented in the late 1960s, or at the height of the cold war to destroy the capitalist patriarchy. Talk this drivel to Putin in Russia & see how quickly you are inspecting the inside of a jail cell?
2, The land of OZ is the least successful multi-CULT-ural nation on earth, because we have the highest per capita terrorism rates on earth. Posted by imacentristmoderate, Tuesday, 24 November 2015 5:33:35 AM

Yes certainly Australia is harder hit by terrorism than Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Israel, Lebanon, Nigeria, Sudan, Somalia and Kenya - to name some...

Russia, China, the US are not going to agree to give up their nuclear weapons.
And, by the way, this writer appears to lay all the responsibility at the feet of the United States. Russia and China are not mentioned. Why would that be?
She claims that one of the benefits of multiculturalism is "...an Aboriginal football player...". Good grief. There were thousands of them long before multiculturalism was dreamed up and they were cheered and admired. What has that got to do with the failed policy of multiculturalism? (Angela Merkel's assessment, not just mine.)
And the differences between earlier waves of immigration and the present one were that (a) they generally integrated and accepted the host culture, and (b) they didn't harbour terrorists in their ranks.
If "boat people" are "scarred for life" by their treatment on Christmas Island, Manus and Nauru, how does that compare with their treatment in environments they allegedly fled from?
As for changes to the criminal justice system...
The soft on crime strategies that the writer applauds led to the rape and murder of Jill Meagher and many other such crimes. No wonder people have now taken a more punitive view. Locking criminals away has a very good result: it keeps them off the street and prevents any further offences.
Naïve is not a strong enough word for this junk. It gives bleeding hearts a bad name.
