Who are the real racists? : Comments

Who are the real racists?
Those scowling, black-shirted, self-righteous elitists stomping on the heads on those deemed subhuman degenerates.

Yes, the *anti*-racists.

One notes we were reportedly less racist before the war, and at a time when most folk, although deep in the grip of a Depression, felt safe to leave their doors open and invariably welcomed the occasional stranger with a cup of tea.

These were the times when almost every household held a gun, ostensibly for rabbits the staple of the Great depression?

So felt less threatened by difference than they do now.
Many white kids grew up with their black childhood friends and saw them only as friends not blacks!

No one is born a racist, but is something learned or introduced with events like the post war mass migration; replete with the usual white supremacists?

And the likely forbears of that 13 year old girl, who thought it was perfectly normal as inculcated behavior, to denigrate a proud Australian, due to the color of his skin?

I believe John Howard played the race card and allowed/encouraged this imported underlying xenophobia to escape like genie from the bottle with the Tampa incident, that suddenly saw desperate men, women and children become the enemy?

Rather than merely unwelcome uninvited freeloaders?

We have to put this BS to bed and could do worse than play the famous, I have a dream speech, over the public address system before every sporting event!

I mean, we can't forbid racism but may yet educate folks to stop seeing or claiming this BS difference for Australians born here?

We do however need to stop strident media personalities (Bolt, JOnes) from beating it up for the, I believe, fundamental purpose of improving the ratings; and the devil take the hindmost!

So, every man and his dog is now an expert on racism.

In the Goodes case: First racist act was by those who elevated Goodes to Australian of the year. He had done nothing for Australia except play a game he loved and was well rewarded for. He was given the award because he was of aboriginal descent, and he fitted the policy of reconciliation and identity politics.

Second racist act: Goodes' outburst against "invaders" who gave him the opportunity to raise himself to his exalted level.

Then there is Goodes' act of humiliating a13 year old kid in front of 50,000 people. That poor, ignorant child will be scarred for life; she will probably never express an opinion on anything again, remembering what she suffered at the hands of an Australian "hero".

The claim is that the abuse and denial of the rights of the child minor are inferior to the self-inflicted hurt -it was his interpretation of the term that mattered - suffered by the professional First Grade footballer involved.

It is astounding still that the mothers of Australia haven't risen en-masse to assert the rights of this child.

I don't know a lot about Mr Adam GOODES other than he seems to attract an enormous amount of publicity for many reasons ? While it's true he was named 'Australian of the Year' I'm not entirely sure why ? Was he a particularly effective advocate for Aboriginal rights, or was it for his Australian Rules football skill ? I really don't know.

I do recall the incident where a young teenage girl called him an 'ape' or some such epithet which apparently really upset him to a point he responded to her in some way ? Is the name 'ape' a raciest term, I wouldn't have thought so, I've been called much much worse at work, as well as my deceased mother and father, and my wife, kids and grandkids and even our dog, etc etc ! And it's all like water off a ducks back, as I grin effusively at my tormentors, as the big iron gates of Long Bay Gaol close inexorably behind them !

Interestingly, some people are far too sensitive about their ethnicity, and by fuelling that sensitivity, by angrily and overtly responding, each time you hear an insult or an imagined taunt, generally ends up by only hurting themselves ! If Mr GOODE believes he's suffered a racial taunt, he should simply ignore it, and let his footballing prowess, and his substantial pay-packet for that prowess, do all his talking for him !

This is a lovely piece. A bit of calm common sense at last after so many words by people who feel they must say something, however ignorant.

A great uplifting ending. Fantastic quote by Ataturk.

Well done mate !

I agree Bronte, this article is well written and tells it like it is.
If only everyone felt the same way.

Certain parts of the Media look for stories about racists and anti-racists when they are having slow news days I think.
Some on this forum do the same......
