By Lionel Bopage, published 9/6/2015

As the Executive Director of TRANSACT, Michele was whole heartedly dedicated to providing services to rehabilitate and resettle survivors of torture and trauma, who had arrived in Canberra.

One has to give credit where credit is due, without necessarily agreeing with all the exclusively resettlement aims of M.H.

There are over 50 million displaced person around the world, and for most there will never ever be resettlement!

Even though many fear persecution and or reprisals for persecuting other ethnic minorities/communities, i.e.?

And the problem that forever kicks this can down the road instead of solving it at source, are just the lack of funds!

Now many folk are of the view we must and should put a price on carbon, and impose it via an emission trading scheme!?

And given universal global acceptance, able to generate as much as 140 billions per in carbon brokerage fees and just in the main for shuffling paper?

So why can't these brokerage activities be made the exclusive province of not for profit NGO's?

And the + or - 140 billions per, used to improve outcomes right where these folks are escaping from?

And given some much of this displacement is the product of competition for potable water, get busy supplying more of that, through wells and or, modern desal!

Which now costs just a quarter of what it used to cost, and returns 97% of the water as potable water suited for human, animal consumption or intensive agricultural pursuits.

I dare say, with approximately 140 billions per to use for these various coordinated projects, we'd have this situation licked and SECURED, inside a year or two?

And then redirect that income to proper sanitation and education.
Which by the way, would go a long way to wiping out the scourge of Ebola and similar threats!

And following that the roll-out of micro loans, which would allow relatively small pools of money to do quite massive amounts of work over and over; and progressively improve the circumstances of folks who would otherwise, likely just add to the entirely intractable refugee problem!

As opposed to more of the same, which to date has just added massively to a seemingly insoluble problem!

No doubt all the merchant bankers and legal firms setting themselves up to become billionaire carbon brokers will scream blue murder and send an avalanche or excuses and reasons for not making carbon brokering the exclusive province of not for profit NGO's!

All while ignoring what this money for bugger all could do if redirected exclusively at the problems experienced by the less well of!

Which by the way, would have described China not so long ago!

Today China is our premier trading partner and an emerging super power! And how much better off are we for just that outcome!?

And given the inherent benefits for us and almost every other trading nation, let's not allow myopically focused individual greed to overcome the compelling and ultimately self serving need to end/conquer poverty in all its forms and guises, whenever/wherever we find it!

And if that also means removing one or two, hiding behind "stolen" sovereignty, inhumane dictators/cancers on the face of humanity, by "surgical" removal; then so be it!
