Sorry it took me so long to respond. I was away for Easter. I see no one challenged the article itself.
Cobber the Hound - article doesn't discuss climate or emission levels at all.
Rhrosty - quite right. Vast difference between intermittent and conventional power sources.
Taswegian - I use to think that 30 per cent wind is not possible on the isolated Aus network. It means that at certain points during the generating year you will need 90 per cent of power to come from wind (to get to the 30 per cent average). But it may be possible at the cost of vast distortion of the network. You'd have to temporarily close down, or wind right back, the existing base level plants with major loss of operating efficiency - but I suppose it can be done. Would be nice to have an assurance from the grid managers that this saves carbon..
