Why the rise of fascism is the issue : Comments

By John Pilger, published 4/3/2015

Their man in Moscow used to be Boris Yeltsin, a drunk, who handed his country's economy to the West. His successor, Putin, has re-established Russia as a sovereign nation.

Yes, but you would say that wouldn't you John!?

And how would you honestly describe a virtually self appointed President Putin?

A Fascist dictator, a Communist dictator, or just a lying scoundrel of a power obsessed dictator, (says one thing, does another) hurling his country headlong into a very dangerous conflict with the west?

Why? And before you answer, please return to the mostly unbiased investigative Journo you seem to have been, before you became, a motley collection mass murdering miscreant's, principle mouthpiece?

You're letting the nutty conspiracy theories get the better of you, John, and have been very selective with what you've claimed. You seem very quick to turn a blind eye to fascism that doesn't fit your narrative – I think you need to have another look at Animal Farm!

Gadaffi was undeniably fascist, and was very unpopular with the Libyan people.
The Poms and Frogs don't care what currency Libya (or Iraq or Iran) sells its oil in. And in practice, the way the markets work nowadays it wouldn't even make much difference to the Seppos.

Geopolitically it made sense to back the side that had the best chance of winning. Staying out would have been no better, as Syria proves.

There was no coup against the Ukrainian government. Their old president ordered the military to fire on peaceful protesters. Surely this makes that scumbag unworthy of anyone's support? The Ukrainians certainly thought so - the people revolted against him and he did a bunk. And he was replaced not by any military general or puppet, but by the normal democratic process.

Ukraine had previously done a deal with Russia: Ukraine would keep the former Russian territory in exchange for the Soviet nukes. Russia reneged on the deal, and instead backed pro-Russian rebels in a war of aggression.

What we want in Russia isn't strength or weakness, but rather THE RULE OF LAW. And we don't have that with Putin. Nor did we have it with Yeltsin (who I never understood the appeal of). But though both options are bad, I think a weak lawless state is far better than a strong lawless state, as it's less of a threat. Do you disagree?

Aidan, what the Western Oligarchs are perpetrating is no longer in the realm of theory. Throughout history people have always conspired for advantage. Note Shakespeare's plays.

George Brandis here, brings in new laws of over the top surveillance and makes ASIO immune to investigation and prosecution even if they break the law. Howard's Sedition Laws are just like the Patriot Act.

http://www.ae911truth.org/ There is plenty of scientific evidence which clearly shows that 911 was an inside job. This was the event which justified all these wars of imperialism and now these lunatics want a war with Russia and China because their thieving financial scams will collapse taking us all down.

Nice article JP. This is the first time in a long while that I share your views

It's great to see that someone paints Putin in a favourable light and doesn't buy the gutter narrative that Ukraine is the good guy and that the Brezhinksi led Obama administration is arguing a just cause.

Part of the problem of course is that Zbig is the lead architect of current US foreign policy. He has always had only malice for Russia, which is only magnified when as JP makes clear, because its current leader, Putin unlike Boris Yeltsin isn't for sale.

"Boris Nemtsov, a charismatic Russian opposition leader and sharp critic of President Vladimir Putin, was gunned down near the Kremlin, just a day before a planned protest against the government."

Pete why would Putin gun down his opposition of 5% approval rating ?Who benefits? Certainly not Putin who is the obvious suspect.

PS,I don't trust any leaders who have too much power but Putin on average is doing a good job to take the world out of the grips of fascism and wars.

Hi Arjay

Methinks I can't change your mind.

Instead I bring to your attention "The Missing Evidence" series. Wednesday, March 11, 8.30pm on SBS, which I've heard will be on The Twin Towers.

Regards

Pete

This is a great article. In it's most simplistic version on the political continuum there's socialist on the left. The extreme socialist view is communism. On the right capitalism. the extreme capitalist view is fascism.
The further we go to the right the greater the fascist view. For example look at the militarisation of civilian police forces. In the US you can't protest within two blocks of the any presidential travel route. In Oz think G20. The rights of the civilian population are being withdrawn. We can be held without trial indefinitely. Torture of prisoners is now acceptable. Do you think I'm talking about the USSR or China? Think again. Who created the mess in the Middle East? Great Briton. Who originally funded al qaeda to fight the USSR? USofA.
At the end of every empire there is always war!

Pete I've met personally Richard Gage the founder of http://ae911truth.org/ Prof Steven Jones, Prof Niels Harritt and our own Dr Frank Legge. I know a bit about Maths and science as I used to teach it.

Would you care to debate the finer points of physics and the free fall of 3 concrete reinforced steel buildings that came down in their own footprints in 11 seconds on 911 ?

IMHO John Pilger is about as bad as it gets. May I respectfully suggest he moves to live in Russia, North Korea or China asap.
