Between 2006 and 2008, dozens of tribal entities were actively involved in the Anbar Salvation Council (ASC). This regional coalition successfully opposed Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI), the former incarnation of the Islamic State.

Lets face it....the Colonial carve up of this region prior to and after both world wars is a big reason why we are having issues with terrorism today.
For more than 100 yrs we carved up the region, stole their resources, enslaved the people, installed compliant brutal dictators and then wonder why the region is a powder keg today.
How about we start looking at the big picture.
