New technology could end the debate over pipeline safety : Comments

By James Stafford, published 3/9/2014

The not so good news is that North America doesn't have nearly enough oil and gas pipelines to accommodate its 11-million-barrel-a-day output level.

Not enough pipelines eh? Maybe?
But the do have plenty of rust belts and dozens of mothballed steel mills.
London to a brick, if they were even just threatened with a real war!
Those mothballed mills would start to roll/roar into life again, and the pipelines completed, in a military organised manner, and in record time; and, with or without the approval of the green movement!

Ah, the Greens, don't we love them, always at the forefront helping new infrastructure get built. Who am I kidding?

Unfortunately, you're right about the threat of a real war.

What on earth are you talking about? Read the article again. The author is portraying environmentalists as part of the solution, not the problem. The need for environmentally safe technology is what is forcing oil companies to invest in early-detection solutions such as 'pigs'. (Why did they make me think of colonoscopies? ... But I digress.)

More and more oil companies are starting to understand this. It's taken them a long time, because they are slow learners. But they're getting the message.
