Commemoration with blinkers : Comments

By David Stephens, published 13/6/2014

While the Australians who took part in D-Day deserve recognition, the attention Australia paid to the recent anniversary was way out of proportion to the role we played in June 1944.

I am sorry, I am struggling to grasp the point of this article. The author seems to spend most time complaining that the Australian War Memorial is not doing things that are not part of its mission.

Well no they won't, because the whole point of the Australian War Memorial is to focus on Australians at war.

Most of the action in the wars commemorated at the Australian War Memorial was conducted without Australians. So, while it might make some background, it is going to be of limited interests to Australians wanting to learn about the involvement of Australians in these wars.

What that has to do with the D-Day commemorations, I am not sure. The reason for the recent coverage was because the Prime Minister was present.
