Russia has been sucker-punched. This is more about the petrodollar, and America's need to increase its oil and gas markets, which they would like to do in Western Europe, who currently gets their oil and gas from Russia. The petrodollar is used by America to leverage its debt...that's how it is able to increase its debt ceiling despite not being able to service its debts...by leveraging its currency. The petrodollar means that any country that wants to buy or sell oil, has to do so with USD. Ergo, it's important for the US to expand its markets so that it can expand the use of USD, allowing it to incur more debt. They just raised their debt ceiling, and have less than 12 months before that money runs out, so they are desperate for new markets for oil and gas, and thus, expanded markets for USD. Well,as usual it's all about the money.
The share of the cake. That's what wars are always about, be they civil wars or invasion type wars. Most humans wouldn't get off their lazy-day chair to go and fight a war and blow up all that lovely money in bombs and missiles. No! there is a huge carrot(reward) in it somewhere. And that carrot is the control of countries and the resources that provide all that lovely up market style of prosperous living. The spoils to the winners. The war in the Ukraine was actually started by the revolt of the people in the streets. Russia and then American sanctions followed a coup by the people Posted by CHERFUL, Monday, 21 April 2014 7:58:50 PM

The war in the Ukraine was started as usual by Western Imperialists ie mostly central bankers who have enormous shares in all the energy companies around this planet.
The West over threw a legally elected Govt in the Ukraine to steal resources and get nukes closer to Russia. The New World Order stated by George Bush senior back in 1992 still beckons. Posted by Arjay, Monday, 21 April 2014 8:55:09 PM

Russia complains that the current govt is unrepresentative, but acts to prevent free and fair elections.
Ukraine has huge energy resources of her own, and needs to crack on developing, that which is located in the west.
As for those pesky eastern states, let Russia pay their cost of living bills, and heat the homes!
It's too big a bite for impoverished Russia to swallow, and it might take only one winter, to make these cretins realize, their economic interests lay elsewhere, and not as a puppet state of an imperial Russian master or new Czar!?
NATO has seen the light and is engaging in its own military build up, along Russian borders.
And if further escalation is needed to bring the bear to its senses, and away from the Ukraine and a recently annex Crimea, then the placement of patriot missile defense shields along those very borders might!
Nothing is served by delaying the calling of the Russia bluff!
Privatize?
Who would be mad enough to buy these projects or reserves now?
Some Russian oligarchs, with more money than brains maybe?
And just how long would the energy starved west, being blackmailed by Putin, allow them to keep their ill gotten gains, and indeed, surrender even more economic weaponry to Putin?
Putin needs to stop with the sabre rattling, stop leaning on his smaller cousin, let them have their free and fair elections, not the recent parody, with no no option, that he engineered in the gas and oil rich Crimea; and just pull his head in and his troops back into their homeland barracks!
Then we might be able to avoid a hot conventional war?
Stop blaming the Ukraine for the results of clear Russian meddling!
