Apart from that there is some interesting work on innovation taking place in Perth, at and around University of Western Australia (UWA). UWA's Pilbara Project is to set up an office in north Western Australia, with research and teaching facilities: http://www.news.uwa.edu.au/201212065328/events/feasibility-study-explore-uwa-pilbara-potential
