Western Australia also produced the Moodle education software, used at universities and schools around the world. Moodle HQ is still in a modest office in Perth (which I visited a few months ago). Martin Dougiamas, creator of Moodle, is a legend in the world's e-learning community for his contribution to the field. However, he is hardly acknowledged in Australia for his work in fostering a new education industry. Apart from that there is some interesting work on innovation taking place in Perth, at and around University of Western Australia (UWA).
