The public thinks otherwise. In the absence of visible enforcement or perceived hazards, voluntary compliance with speed limits is low.

Here we have the Liberal Democrats, Australia's Tea Party, supporting public votes on safety laws to avoid speeding fines.

The roads are a shared resource not a private road for "libertarians".

The Greens have similar "win-win" aspirational policies that are unworkable and will never happen.

Do the Liberal Democrats also back the NRMAs long spruiked policy of a public inquiry over high petrol prices?
