In his reference to the Law Reform Commission what does the federal attorney-general mean by 'Traditional Rights, Freedoms and Privileges'

Many good points, but could it be as simple as framing the review in terms of 'traditional' rights, freedoms and privileges because the Human Rights Commission has been an abject failure in this area.

After all, the Executive arm of government has acquired enormous power in recent years and, as a compliant lapdog, the Human Rights Commission has said and done nothing. That’s just not good enough

The Human Rights Commission needs urgent re-balancing if it is to serve any useful role in Australia. Appointment of Tim Wilson is a first step in the right direction. Labor did not manage to appoint a full time Human Rights Commissioner during the 6 years it was in office and AHRC even managed in its 2012 submission to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Committee to argue for the abolishment of the Australian Human Rights Commissioner's position. This was done on top of such blunders as not being amicus curie in the Bolt case, supporting Nicolas Roxon's amendments to the Racial Discrimination Act to outlaw words that may offend and failure to act when government was planning to create statutory media regulation in response to Finkelstein Inquiry.

To refer the issue of Civil Liberties to ALRC could be another step in the right direction. But do not forget Frank Brennan's consultations - they delivered a solid report but resulted in nothing.

funny how Labour had those wanting to ban free speach while having employers like Rudd and McTernan who treated staff like dirt.

"Traditional" presumably means the universal civil rights of citizens, as understood for hundreds of years before the utopian Progressives started inventing new "rights" for all their pet minorities.

Several years, hundreds of thousands of dollars and 783 pages later, nothing will happen.

The Utopia train will keep chugging right along.
Crushing any "traditional" people in its path.
