Smoke and mirrors and motorbikes : Comments

By Bill Calcutt, published 13/11/2013

There is potential for this trust to be exploited when ill-defined threats to national security (such as terrorism) cause anxiety and fear within the community.

Bill Calcutt is worried that the war on Islamic terrorism presently being conducted by our western intelligence services means that the spooks have the capacity to tap any communication and therefore threaten our civil liberties. Yep, that's right, Bill.

But if you were so worried about threats to our civil liberties, why do you and your trendy mates still go into bat for Muslim immigration into western countries? No Muslims, means no domestic Muslim terrorists, means no need to allow our spooks to potentially infringe on our civil liberties to prevent Muslim domestic terrorists from mass murdering our people with bombs and Jihadi filled aeroplanes.

You guys are incredible. You create an insolvable problem with your insistence on Australia maintaining high humanitarian ideals at the cost of our self preservation, then when the predicted problem manifests itself, you go into hysterics complaining about the people who now have to clean up the mess that you and your friends needlessly created. I suppose it is easier to just complain than to think critically and avoid creating problems ion the first place.

Next Bill complains about the new anti biker laws, opining that the biker gangs are not a big problem. Got news for you Bill from my own personel experience (some of my former Housing Commission friends were drug dealers and growers), they are a big problem. And they are very dangerous. Please note the double standard. Western intelligence services must always be considered to be up to no good, but biker gangs involved in murders and who control the organised distribution of drugs in Australia must be given the benefit of the doubt.

It is this curious double standard that most perplexes me about people with Bill's mindset. All authority (outside of the sundry Anti Discrimination agencies) must always be treated with suspicion and deep mistrust. But David Hicks, Mamdouth Habib, Hells Angeles, the Commancheros, the Bandidoes, the Finks and anyone else who is a threat to the population are counterculture romantic heroes who's welfare and human rights is of the greatest concern.

Lego,
It leaves one wondering whether these people are just plain stupid or are they in fact part of the conspiracy to ruin us but are again too stupid to realise that they themselves will go down the gurgler as well when the crap hits the fan. Seeing that our authorities are already infiltrated by them vigilanteism will most likely emerge as the only sign of sanity.

Hi individual

I personally think that they are intelligent in one or two areas, with a complete lack of the social intelligence which working class people call "street smarts."

But they have a compulsive need to think that they are so intelligent that they are God's gift to the human race, that they will seize upon any cause which their peer group endorses because they think that is displaying that they are smart. Like an adolescent sucking on cigarettes because he thinks it makes him look grown up, people like Bill think that manning the barricades for every anti authority cause and finding excuses every traitor like Hicks is what "smart" people do.

People like Bill must have lived sheltered lives within the cacoon of people who think like themselves, probably the ABC or the cloistered walls of academia where the Age of Aquarius never ended.

It is heartening to note that in France the university students who once rebelled over nearly everything associated with authority are now rebelling against the "68'ers" who were the rebels of 1968, and who have now landed France with it's appalling Muslim immigrant problem. While the 68'ers are now in power and pretending that the growing Muslim menace does not exist, the young French people are incensed that these idealists have lumbered them with bankruptcy and social suicide.

The times they are a changin'. But Bill hasn't worked that out yet. He is still dreaming about his Moratorium days and thinking that everything will be alright provided that everybody just joins hands and sings 'Kumbaya."

OMCG?

Surely that should be OMG

After all, its semantically more accurate (they are after all usually describled as outlaw motorcycle gangs, not outlaw motor cycle gangs); and it suits the tone of the debate so much better
