By Douglas Hurst, published 5/9/2013Why does it work? The simple answer is: because if you want people to do your bidding, guilt is a strong card to play.

It's surely not a coincidence that the rise of AGW doctrine has coincided with the decline in traditional religious faith, particularly among the young. Clearly for some people, when you can't take a smug pride in your position as God's favourite, it's necessary to find another way to bolster your delusions of moral superiority. In the last ten years the environmental movement has gone from a collection of small groups with genuine local concerns to a church of unquestioning faith; it has its priests, its doctrines, and its unwavering conviction that unbelievers are doomed to a fiery hell for their sins.

There's a fair bit of guilt to peddle around.
Particularly for the greens, who as usual, are not very introspective? I mean, if the greens hadn't combined with the coalition to block the ETS, Kevin Rudd may well have not been deposed? Had the ETS been part of our then reality in 2010, no one would have been obliged to promise, there will be no carbon tax under the government I lead. It's the law of cause and effect in operation and a chain reaction. However, because Kevin Rudd was deposed, he and a cadre of his die hard supporters, found it necessary to undermine his replacement, Julia Gillard at every opportunity? But particularly, when they discovered how well she was doing in the 2010 election campaign! I mean, at that point there appeared to be a landslide win for labor; and consequently, little or no chance/prospect of a Rudd return! Hence the need in some quarters to destroy her and her political career, regardless of the consequences, or the damage done to Labor? So there is some more guilt to peddle, mainly at the feet of Mr Rudd, who highhandedly, with his or his supporter's leaking/plotting/undermining, is responsible for Labors current position and the final result in Saturday's polls. He, Mr Rudd can take some comfort from the fact, Labor needs to spend some time in the political wilderness to clean up its brand, and perhaps find its traditional values; rather than remain a pale shadow of the coalition, and slip slide ever further to the right! Finally, the rusted on labor supporters of Griffith, are not dumb, and may resent and chose to punish their candidate, for the way he has almost alone, destroyed a once great party; and, its future prospects for some years out! What a tacky essay - little more than a string of comic book cliches
Google Christian Environmentalism and you will find 10million entries. Hundreds of millions of Christians are actively involved in the environmental movement understanding that the question of responsible stewardship of the Earth's resource is very important (even mandated by the Bible). Whether they or anybody else do so because of alleged guilt is impossible to know. Speaking of Christians there is a superb essay by Byron Smith on the ABC Religion and Ethics site titled Australias Political Climate: Three Numbers Ignored In This Election. It is interesting to note that Byron is associated with The Centre For Public Christianity which is more often than not associated with conservative and/or right-wing perspectives The editor of the ABC site is a right wing "catholic" who is openly hostile towards left/progressive/liberal perspectives. The ABC site also features a long essay by Marion Maddox on the subject of green politics and Christianity titled The Godless Greens. Meanwhile by favorite "Philosopher" pointed out that guilt is the most useless emotion and that it cripples ones entire emotional-feeling being, and thus ones capacity to even think clearly and, more importantly to change ones actions when confronted with the moral demand to do so. Of course conservative and/or right Christians promote the baneful crippling meme/idea that guilt is an essential mechanism for enforcing human beings to act as moral agents in the world. Meanwhile I thoroughly recommend that everyone study this very sobering Truth Telling essay re the humanly created situation in 2013 http://sacredcamelgardens.com/wordpess/reality-humanity Meanwhile hundreds of millions of human being are quite rightly convinced that there is something profoundly amiss with the state of the world. These references provide links to many of the organizations providing the necessary collective resources to at least try to make a positive difference. Notice that they are all on the left/liberal/progessive spectrum of the culture wars. The first two sites are directly associated with the author of the above essay. The book and on the third reference was highly praised by the above author. http://www.dabase.org/GCF.htm http://theblueok.com http://www.blessedunrest.com Posted by Daffy Duck, Thursday, 5 September 2013 11:41:13 AM

Very amusing, LOL. Definitely a promising new talent from the strange universe of climate change denial.
