Yes a good summation of the situation which, it seems to me neither blames those on left or the right of the culture wars. Or progressive or conservative.
This reference describes the state of popular culture and politics - and the narrow parameters re what is acceptable.

"The once was" assumes he/she has an Australian heritage, when "The once was" heritage lies many miles from Australia.
