The problem with our media is a failure to distinguish news from entertainment.

"Just another ridiculous bash at the Greens"

The greens deserve all the bashings they get and more. It was green ideology, along with alp policy of "whatever it takes" which directly led to the deaths of over 1200 illegal immigrants.

The greens are not fit to be in government.

Before Marilyn gets shrill perhaps she would like to comment on this group of poor boat people:

I bet they'll be in comancheros' colours as soon as they hit the mainland.

Hi Syd,

I agree with the overall thrust of your article however, it does however, seem to focus upon symptoms rather than causes.

There was a time when journalists not only sourced news, they collated, analyzed, substantiated, fact checked their sources and more importantly, drew on multiple sources where possible.

In the electronic world of journalism it seems that syndicated news offers choices, sadly there is evidence that some journalists have “preferred” sources. Much of today’s news is not news at all, it is opinion. Some journalists are guilty of combining preferred sources with their own opinion to produce lazy, biased and in the end, wholly distorted “news”.

When Curmudgeon points out that “Most the Aus media relies on foreign news wires anyway”, it seems to be and excuse rather than a cause. Add to this the issues of lack of knowledge about history, geography and geo-politics and we have a recipe for poor journalism.

One other factor worth note is the number of journalists who see themselves as, or even declare themselves as “activists”. Ideology has produced the socialization of almost every topic on the planet, sadly many in the media are leading the way on this.

Professional journalism has taken an absolute flogging in the last 25 years or so and is still heading south.
