There's nothing free or efficient about current Emissions Trading Scams : Comments

By Geoff Carmody, published 23/7/2013

The ETS 'market' is defined and suffocated by extensive government regulation. Aggregate permit supply is government-determined. It's subject to their policy whims.

AGW is a scam, not even a failed theory but an insidious ideology; which makes all the talk about ets's, taxes, renewables etc just scum on landfill.

The ETS is just another derivative scam that will do nothing for the environment but line the pockets of an elite few.

This excellent article in today's 'BusinessSpectator' by Keith Orchison explains what is happening to Australia's electricity demand as a result of the policies that are killing investor confidence in Australia and wrecking Australia's manufacturing industries.

Keith Orchison was head of the Electricity Supply Association of Australia from 1991 to 2003 so he is a knowledgeable and reputable authority on this matter.

A good article by Orchison. The CEO of one of the bigger electricity suppliers said to me about 5 years ago that AGW would need 10 years to filter through the system and not end before blackouts so the luvvies and chatterers who support AGW and renewables had a taste of life without reliable power.

"The policy starting point is clear. If anthropogenic emissions are warming the planet, this is a global problem requiring global mitigation action. So we need a global deal."

The policy starting point is the problem. There is no scientific evidence that anthropogenic emissions are warming the planet to any measurable degree -- AGW is mere assertion that unthinking academics unquestionably accept. The research capability of those academics appears to be limited to literature searches -- there being no pressure to produce effective solutions while being assured government support.

Consequently, there is no scientific nor economic justification for implementing the policy. Sadly, governments have gone ahead and implemented the policy regardless. Some have used the lame excuse that they did not want to be left behind in case other countries implemented the policy.

Thanks to government incentives to adopt unreliable, inefficient, renewable energy schemes and discourage coal-fired power investment, we are now stuck with commercial electricity prices that are twice those in the USA. Our prior world comparative energy price advantage has become a distant memory
