National service is cheaper, better & character building. Fat is useless & expensive in every way. National service can fix obesity & teaches skills & appreciation of not being fat.

Well my wife is a paramedic and they now have, at tax payer expense, extra large, heavy lift ambulances to deal with the ever increasing number of obese 'fat lazy people' who don't seem to have any self control of their eating habits and vis poor health leading to ambulance usage.

There is perhaps a case for the corporate media and corporations that dole out industrial food (low health, high sugar, salt etc etc) from the ever growing range of 'fast-food' outlets that seem to be an ever growing business arm within society.

Health and fitness are personal traits, unfortunately we are breeding and raising generations of idle people of appear to believe that it is the governments fault (and perhaps it is to a small point) thus they expect public aid and assistance to over-come 'their' eating, social and health problems.

Me, I just suggest getting of the old backhind and walking a couple of Km's to the shop and making a few reasonably simple choices or try growing some food of your own. Both provide healthy sustenance and a way to burn some of those unwanted calories.

Unfortunately, Joe and Jane average have become lazy, or too busy to care about their offspring's general health and welfare, thereby inducing our growing obesity epidemic.

Will governments intervene, no too much money from corporate interest and funding, will doctor's complain, no, need those poor patients in the door to raise revenue, will the supermarkets care, no, plenty of money to be made selling crap to anyone willing to fill their trolley, will big pharma care, not on your life, too many drugs and other 'diet' and 'healthy lifestyle' gimmicks to sell.

Outcome, fat lazy early death population that has little or no grasp on what real nutrition is and what balance and a little exercise (other than walking from the front door to the letterbox) really means.

With an ageing population, a lazy middle income demographic and a growing waiting list at public and private hospitals.....pretty basic........unsustainable.

Welcome to Australia in the early years of the 21st Century.
