Rhian, you said that over and over again yesterday, it is not true.

PIMA is to oversee complaints from the PUBLIC and to decide if it is in the national interest for Murdoch to own even more papers.

Why do the right wingers in this country have to be such cry babies about so little?

Marilyn,

You still have not addressed the issue of why the ABC is exempt from the new regulations?

If it’s good enough for the rest of the media, surely it’s good enough for the public broadcasters?

Unless of course, you can tell us differently?

Marilyn

My reading of the Bill is that the PIMA does not investigate complaints by the public, but rather it authorises those bodies that do investigate complaints.

PMIA adjudicates the standards and processes of the press council.

For example if the Australian claims that a politician has spent money on prostitutes, there is a complaint, and the press council decides that the paper is justified in printing this the PMIA could step in and fine the paper and force it to print a retraction, and Thomson's crimes would never have seen the light of day.

Firstly the ABC is already accountable through it's board to the government and secondly is unlikely to be bought or sold to a third party...but you already knew that and are just being pathetic like the author of this non article.

The author (if in fact it has not been plagiarized from elsewhere) contradicts himself in his quest for rage and indignation. He points out that the TV and electronic media are already accountable to ACMA but have not to date been disadvantaged but yet he rails against the same being applied to the print media.

Rupert has really "put out the word" such that every hack in the country is up in arms...demonstrates how necessary the legislative changes might be to media in Australia.
