@ Divergence,
I think you are being a mite hard on the Republicans. The main culprits here are the Democrats who will rubber stamp millions of illegal immigrants.A move which will only encourage more of the same.

To argue that because someone was employed in the US for a time they therefore should have the right to stay-on indefinitely, if taken to it’s logical conclusion, would see anyone and everyone who assisted in the construction of your house fence-off a piece of your backyard for themselves.

The real problem in the US, as in OZ, is a lack of backbone when it comes to making tough decisions about illegal immigration.

Obama won barely more votes than Romney. The US vote was split 51/49, hardly a resounding success. His vote dropped dramatically from 2008.

The authors piece adopts the populist media generated view which set the dominant tone in the US. It crafted the views of the US public portraying Romney as self-interested and wealthy with Obama as a person who cared about 'the people', ultimately a complete nonsense.

Like Obama, Gillard will run on dividing society by using the gender wars, the class wars and any other divide she can muster to attribute to herself the moral high ground and the opposite to Abbott. Obama is presiding over a failing economy where the champion of women's 'rights' has put more women out of jobs than ever before. Gillard is a champion money waster too, and then goes to the very people who are making her look good - the miners- and steals more from them.

Will Aussies be as big a fools as the Americans and swallow the stereotypes foisted on us by the media or will we be smart enough to see past image, speeches and imaginary wars?

Now what was that you were saying about the French condemning those who bear false witness?
