A better late than never bridge building, that should have been done long ago and before we became so enmeshed with; and so dependant on the Chinese economy!
Julia seems to be doing an excellent public relations job in wooing and winning over India and Indians? The jewel in the crown, the awarding of the order of Australia, to a very well known and or adored Indian Cricket Legend!
India is like us a democracy, and a cricket loving one at that.
Conversely, and in direct differentiated direction, India is a young economy with plenty of growth potential; whereas, China is an aging one.
We could do a lot worse than using our huge energy reserves, to lock in, Depression defeating trade deals, with extremely large emerging economies and potential allies like India!
All the reasons we didn't build a positive relationship with them, and or officially engaged in building symbiotic trade relations with them have, just like the cold war that once kept us apart, disappeared!

This is surely one of the reasons why I find Julia far more "forward thinking" compared to most of her contemporaries. India is going to continue needing more "reliable" partners for her energy needs. China or not, we only stand to gain from a deal with the Indians.
