Why the tabloids should go down - and why they won't : Comments

By Brian Holden, published 6/6/2012

The type of mind the tabloids help to nourish is the very mind that can switch rapidly to intolerance.

Oh joy, Brian is a Finkelstein supporter, and it's easy to see why.

Brian is smarter, more moral and intellectual then the average slob corroding democracy by not voting in the right way and perverting the social discourse by not reading and believing the right things.

This garbage is nothing more than the dues ex machina of the censor; the mob are a rabble because they are stupid and easily influenced and can become "intolerant"; therefore they have to see, read and hear only what superior chaps like Brian and Finkelstein allow them to see.

This really is a despicable article and reveals more about the anti-democratic tendencies of the pro-Finkelsteins then any alleged subversion by Murdoch.

I don't agree.

Take the mining tax debate, which has led some to generalise that it was the big mining players and media which obliterated the govt's original aims, notably to boost revenue.

I have just been through 4 years of newspaper articles (4 sources), and conclude that it the govt's own poor performance was a prime factor, which led to a panic attack by Labor when it failed to win public support.

I think it is always dangerous when anyone implies controls of the press. Heaven help Aust if Labor had actually controlled the media.

I find this an interesting site. It seems mainly aimed at the right wing audience but with a peppering of progressive articles like this one. Of course this article draws cries of outrage from the usual people who see the ABC as a nest of lefties. What a joke. They (the ABC) draw a lot of their material from the Murdoch rags so enuf said.
It is sad that NZ is without an independent TV voice now. $15million seems like small change to me. Our proposed shire heated pool leisure centre is estimated to cost $14million. Surely TVNZ is worth this.

"Surely TVNZ is worth this."

Well, off you go, get a bank loan and pay for it yourself.

Or are you a typical leftie who not only wants your views to be the only ones but also wants everyone else to pay for the privilege of only having your views?

The tabloids are junk but at least they don't hide behind Socialist agendas who push their pseudo science, social engineering dogmas by gathering over opinionated university lecturers devoid of life experience. The feminist 'experts' that often get a run on Q&A and display their bitchiness and double standards fed by Tony Jones are prime examples of this. The tabloids are certainly the less of the 2 evils and usually don't fall for scams such as gw which our national broadcasters in desperation to impress the latte sippers are quick to do.

I don’t know where/how you get the idea that OLO is a rightwing site. I think that if you did a survey of the Main /Recent Article Discussions you would find that the vast majority of articles are from “progressives” . If it was peppered any heavier it would be phaal curry…pass the Roti please.
