I think you're missing the point here...that is The Age's inconsistency over the whole racial and ethnic identity issue. It's a question of consistency when applying those principles. It would be unfair to go into specifics over the identity of certain groups but not apply the same standard to others.

It is important to specify which variant of "Yugoslavia" we're talking about, as each entity had a different ethnic composition. To talk about a "Republic of Yugoslavia" is to talk of a state that has never existed.

I get that the author has an axe to grind, but I think she's struggling to find a way to grind it. Either that, or I missed the link between Bolt and the Macedonia/Yugoslavia controversy. Sorry!
