Will bribing employers with a $1,000 make older employees that much more attractive?

Earth to Cheryl…….

No.

No reply.

She’s so far off the planet that we can’t raise her.

Jonathan - thanks for this incisive article that does not simply regurgitate the general rhetoric about mature age workers. Our business (www.sageco.com.au) focuses on providing solutions to organisations, primarily to support those in the pre-retirement zone to consider working longer, albeit differently. It's so refreshing to read something that provides a systemic solution on a much broader scale. At some point, the government is going to have to sit down and do the economic hard yards to address superannuation, workers compensation, retirement age and all the other things that insiduously limit the workforce participation of a mature age worker. I guess it is much easier to throw a bucket of money to the wind in the vain hope that some noble employers will take the time and effort to fill out the paperwork and recruit a mature age worker or two.

I could provide here a long, worn out list of the business benefits of employing mature age workers. Compelling though it may be, until we have longer term solutions and incentives such as the Singapore Govt example to provide a rigorous framework, employing a 'mature age worker' will remain a charitable, 'out of the box' type of recruitment endeavour.
