By Mikayla Novak, published 28/3/2012

The fact of the matter is that the words 'competence' and 'Bligh government' could no longer be strung together.

<< I like the way Newman has some novel approaches to things, rather than a big stick. >>

You may have a point Hasbeen, but I am seeing some worrying early signs. One of Brisbane's main problems is traffic congestion. A ring road is needed but none of the parties even came close to suggesting it. In fact Beatie tried to do it many years ago and it was Liberal Bruce Flegg who led the opposition to it so go figure. He's putting a freeze on car regio, but allowing the increases in public transport fares (albiet in a reduced form) to go through. It probably should have been the other way around. The idea is to get people out of cars, not encourage more private travel. These are only small issues I have with him. I liked him as mayor, he did more to improve the bus and ferry services than any of his two labor predecessors.

Hello Hasbeen.

I am really interested to know what you think Newman might do that is novel or significantly different and better than Bligh.
