Most people probably think slavery was wholey an Africa to America phenomenon. Little or no pay to Aborignes is another set of facts easily written out.

If we are to reflect on the past why not celebrate the fact that white people although they committed some atrocities brought medicine, education and more importantly the gospel to people who lived in darkness. Young girls being rescued from uncles, being shown how to build a house and being supplied with running water and electricity are things now being taken for granted. Free sit down money, opportunites to go to university, jobs all outweigh the old lifestyle of tribal warfare where some kids born disabled were clubbed over their heads. A little balance please. Just look at some of the tribal feuding still going on with axes and machettes and you might stop living in dreamland.

Very informative article, thanks James. I think your idea of museums depicting the full story of Australia's wealth in similar fashion to those you described in Liverpool is a good one. A full picture of where the wealth went would be even better; obviously little has gone to e original inhabitants of the land. Thier origninal wealth - their country - has been despoiled. Real question is how can they be compensated for loss of country and health - simply paying money can't return these but restoring pride in their amazing culture can.
