By Georgia Lowe, published 3/10/2011

These days the left has joined the right in wanting to cut back spending almost everywhere.

No...Never a green, and gave away the Labor party when Bob Hawk drank his way into his second win.
Tick me off for Pauline Hanson and Bob Katter though; both good and honest folk they are! Shame is Joe Peterson is dead! Nice religious guy he was, drove Queensland a long way!

PS..Imajulianutter:

Joe hated daylight saving too; another stupid Labor invention. To be honest though, I never believed for one minute that daylight saving faded the curtains.

No doubt Georgia would like to see the same public expenditure as Greece. The left then have the audicity to riot and run amuck when the Government tries to cut back its waste.

pelican, you continue inching in the correct direction, describing the problem perfectly, then continuing to perpetuate it.

What we have been told for decades is a "good social democracy" is in fact a "totalitarian, closet communist, matriarchy" dressed up as a "good social democracy" by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rent-seeking & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Fabian_Society note they dont even use the term "Fabian Socialist" anymore, they are now an association &/or "debating society".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN05DHO9bJw&feature=related if you have not taken a few minutes to watch this please do for your daughters sake.

90% of Australia's population always were moderate centrists, the left, right out paradigm always was a luciferian, 1984, nightmare, "get thee to a protestant christian church, woman, before it is too late for you to repent".

diver dan, you are being a little too pessimistic, your assessment of the issues is pretty good, but Tony Abbott does want to be re-elected so work choices II/sequel/son of/etc will not be coming back any time soon. Don't just sit back though & wait for an opportunity to VOTE for Bob Katter's Australian party, join up.

Squeers, you took the words right out of my mouth, poor Georgia is clearly a RED/green, Chifly was clearly a "national socialist" as was most of the ALP at the time, Comrades Whitlam, Hawke & Keating changed into "inter", "national socialists" along with most of the GAYLP leadership at the time.

The real question is, When will you have the courage to declare openly whether you are a national or international socialist? Do you prefer local business or Chinese &/or other, foriegn owned, multi national, big business?

runner, correct as usual, the Greek government is politically identical to our RED/green, getup, GAYLP/alp, Socialist Alliance.

Curiously with this "tax debate" nobody is talking about reducing spending, so as to finance the abolition of our most inefficient compicated taxes. We have 125 of them, 5 collect 90% of the revenue, reduce spending by 10% & we could abolish 120 other wasteful taxes.

No Formersnag.

You don't read my posts nearly closely enough. I do believe that governments (the people) in a good democracy are best placed to manage some public assets particularly essential utilities. I read an article the other day about ACTEWAGL losing money because of the recent rains and people thus using less water which means less revenue. It is ludicrous to me that the profit motive should be the focus of essential resources like water. Both Libs and Labs are privatising once publicly owned resources, so for the voter there is little to choose if that is an issue of great importance.

However I am speaking into the breeze as you only view a social democracy as a Communist state, thus not seeing how a mixed economy can work better for the citizenry as a whole. Even Bob Katter who you mentioned as an alternative believes governments should have some control over trade. Is he a socialist/communist too?

I don't think you know the meaning of the words otherwise you would not misuse them so liberally.
