Owners of media have the right and indeed the duty in many respects to promote their audiences values.

What a wishy-washy essay!

This reference describes how the media works. It is especially applicable to tabloid and right wing "news"-papers. And of course radio shock-jocks.

Of course media owners have every right to express their bias.

But what about the ABC? We all pay for it, yet it is strongly biased in favour of the progressive/Green side of politics. If it reflected taxpayer values (ie the people who own it), it should have at least 40% bias to conservative views.

What a lot of hogwash, it is well known that the Murdoch Press has had the ability to bring down anything or anybody that Murdoch doesn't like or agree with, and don't think that the Australian media is any better.
