Sensible article. One could go on to list the many things that governments over the past 30 years could have done to make housing affordable and sustainable, and prevented the housing price explosion. For example:
- Remove negative gearing on all but new residential properties
- Reinstate tax on excessive capital gains from family homes
- Proper processes of appeal against unsustainable developments
-Increase spending on sustainable high density public housing.

These are just 3 of many things that could be done but have not been. But we get the governments we deserve. If enough people join focused pressure groups and political parties that have policies to make these changes, the situation of unaffordable, unsustainable housing will turn around.
