How much damage has Orica's hexavalent chromium leakage caused to Newcastle?

I have to agree with the majority of comments so far. The incident was minor. Rage and hysterics over small things accomplishes nothing other than distracting us from big problems. If we moved Orica and every other manufacturer 50 km away from where people, no one would ever be exposed to negligible levels of hexavalent chromium. One or two every year would die driving to or from work, though ... or from the stress of spending two hours every day in transit, paying for the petrol, etc. Keeping things in perspective isn’t an option ... it’s a necessity. Scaring people is one way to exercise power, but it’s not a very pretty one, especially if you can’t get the effect you want without exaggeration, hyperbole, outrage, and sanctimony. Try to put things in perspective, eh? If you want to make the world better, maybe you could get outraged about what’s happening in Syria, say.
