By Adam Creighton, published 8/6/2011

Whatever you think about climate change, a carbon dioxide tax is no reason to expand government, boost handouts or redistribute wealth.

Herbert, Kenny can retire to the cot in the evenings and do his best to increase the population.

Do we all live in caves or houses...carbon to build
Do we all walk or use powered transport....carbon to run
Do we all eat or photosynthesise...Carbon to produce
Do we breathe air exhale what.....carbon
It seem that we will be paying a tax to live not reduce carbon.
What level of exsistance are you willing to go to really reduce the output of carbon gas.

Kenny - and when the so-called "big polluters" have been taxed out of existance and there is no more money in the government coffers for "the compo", what then? There will be no cheap power available so if you can get a few kilowatt-hours from the bits & pieces of green power suppliers, it will be priced in the $ per unit, not cents. Individuals and small communities can & do live on cow poo and mung beans and individuals can choose green power options but this is not a sustainable strategy for the entire population (and our population is tiny).
The AGW proponents tell us to fear CO2 and fight climate change. We will be too busy fighting over the crumbs to notice. And the effect on the global climate, even if the IPCC projections and proposed mitigation strategies are 100% right? Nil.
You suggest that this tax is in the national interest? How and why is that? It is not the future I envisage for my children. Why would any sane person support this tax?

Kenny “High carbon emitters are paying think tanks to push their case not the national interest.”

I push the case against carbon and most other taxes…. But no one pays me… so where do I sign up for my payout?

Another point is Kenny may claim the pro-carbon-tax lobby maybe are not paying think tanks (although I bet they do) but they are also subverting public funds to promote their case and I really object to my taxes being squandered on stupidity

- But not for long – Gillard & co are so high on the nose they have no hope of getting returned and she knows it.

Anyway to the point

Several months ago Gillard declared some sectors of the community, being the lower paid will supposedly be better off from the net effect of bribes/refund/rebates/tax breaks versus increased energy and other costs.

I am not sure how accurate a claim that is, being from the mouth of a lying politician who said, before the last election that there would be no carbon tax but

If I take it at face value (Julia having said it from at least one of her Two Faces) -

I declare this tax is not about the fraud of carbon emissions reductions as much as it is about one of the other great frauds of socialism

Economic leveling – where the indolent and incompetent are rewarded (welfare benefits) and the frugal and industrious penalized (higher tax brackets) for the product of their respective industry.

So I agree with VK3AUU – “the idea of compensating people is a complete nonsense.”

Just as a carbon tax is a complete nonsense

As for “big polluters” – ultimately the consumer of “big polluter” products will pay in their delivered price for those goods and services, on which they will then pay GST…..
