By Sue Wareham, published 19/11/2010

How can Australia work to reduce trade in small arms while AUSTRADE boosts the weapons export market?

gilbert you reinforce what most of in the business think of protesters like yourselves .. you don't even know the name of the event you are protesting at.

It was the LWC, Land Warfare Conference, it started Monday last week, you were there Friday afternoon.

You were at the wrong end of the building, the police even set up an area for picketers at the correct end of the building, as they do at every LWC held in Brisbane (it changes location every year)

The sponsor is your government, your taxes hosted the event.

Many people there, were not involved in weapons, they sell, tents, packing box systems, rope, scale models trucks, robots and any number of other things

Did you know the military buy milk, bread, clothing? Do you have any idea who you picket?

You tripped over two young MS engineers .. what a day!

Do you ever check the site for these events, to see who is attending, what it is about?

Oh sorry, of course, you don't even know what you were protesting against. You see "defence" and run off gasping ..

This show has been on the government websites for 2 years, hardly secret.

The event you mention, the APDSE, is one of so many shows that tries to cash in on the whole Homeland Security business .. reputable people do not exhibit at those .. it was just an exhibition, no conference .. it's for "peddlers", of various bits and pieces, nothing serious in the industry, but you wouldn't know that would you?

I admit I wasn't particularly well informed, but the information that my friend gave me was that a number of international weapons manufacturers were there advertising their wares. I'm glad I attended. 'The Land Warfare Conference'; yeah that was what it was called.

How nice of the police to set us up a little area. They probably should have informed some protest groups that the event was on a bit earlier as no-one knew it was happening until late in the week.

When those to whom Australia has sold weapons cause problems we will send young Australian soldiers to sacrifice their lives in order to overthrow the offending regimes.
How can Australia promote peace when we are providing others with weapons to wage war?
