good article, i liked the last line but, "There is no graffiti in Fruitvale."

I have never lived in any suburb in Sydney or Melbourne that didn't have graffiti, and plenty on the rail lines leading into Central.

Maybe the citizens of Fruitvale have other things on their minds beside this childish spiteful vandalism. Like a job and meaning in their lives.

My partner was watching a show about the homeless working poor in America. They couldnt aford to live in the area they worked, and they couldnt aford the travel expenses by living in an area they could aford. They worked for one of those giant companies that sold "everything" and paid their workers a pittance.

As these companies arrive in Australia, perhaps the same thing will happen here.

Public transport in Brisbane and the outer suburbs is disgusting. It is improving with more bus interchanges, but almost too late.

A lot of large distribution centres are in the outer suburbs. They have 3 shifts a day - trying to get a bus to and from them at the different hours is sometimes impossible - unless you are willing to walk kms.

These communities around transport sound a great idea, as long as they dont become "yuppie" areas where the average Jo cannot aford to buy or rent - or become little slums.

A lot of projects sound great in theory. A lot of forthought and planning from all sectors of the community is needed to make these plans work.
