Sometimes the nanny state dispenses care as well as cost.

Marvelous, unless you need a Doctor in any of the third world countries which paid for their education and training.

you should have asked the doctor: "when , under islam, is it ok to stone a woman to death"?
We should never forget what these people really think, and how out of tune with western thinking they are - irrespective of their qualifications. The London bombers were all professional people!
Good luck with the recovery.

Peter Piper, why don't you just b**ger off and pick your pickled peppers? Or, to be more specific why not look behind these labels that you stick on people and see what is really there – you might be amazed to discover good men and women trying to do their best in a strange country and beset by arrogant dimwits like yourself.

Peter piper, maybe you should ask your Christian doctor "when is it ok to burn witches?".

Now I'm confused.

Isn't "multiculturalism" - you know, that thing that gets Piers Akerman's knickers in a permanent twist - about us bending over backwards to encourage immigrants to "do their thing", and fund them from taxpayers money to do so?

This piece is all about people who appear well assimilated into the Australian way. It seems to be saying really positive things about the ability of us all to live with a bit of cultural diversity, and how some really nice and pleasant people have become embedded in the kind of Australia we all like to live in.

So this is an entirely different multiculturalism, I suspect, to the one that the David Flints of this world require us to despise.

Even the author doesn't use the egregious "-ism" word, instead observing "how multicultural our health system had become".

He simply states that "They are the best reason for a multiracial society"

Amen to that, Barry.

Your remarks struck a chord with me Barry [and the family of one of my close girlfriend's sons, a 22 year old who undertook a life saving operation last year.

The majority of Australian/English Specialists would not operate on my girlfriend's son for a couple of reasons. The Indian Specialist was the only person who took a risk to save his life and used a different operating technique and process to ensure the operation was successful. One 'thing' went wrong which was not the fault of the Specialist, however 12 hours later, all great.

This had nothing to do with multiculturalism..it had to do with the fact that people of various races were all working in our medical system.

They were working it might be added, within the framework of the predominant host culture.
