Seems that the U.S. believes that China is gaining an unfair advantage by keeping their currency artificially low to favour Chinese manufacturers (many of whom are American companies).
The U.S. House of Representatives last week passed a bill to allow America to impose tariffs on Chinese goods igniting tensions over a trade war. Problem is that the America's faltering recovery is strongly tied to its population being able to buy Chinese goods cheaply. Fareed Zakaria says the reason there is almost no inflation in America is mainly due to cheap Chinese manufacturing. He stated that: "The reason the U.S. Federal Reserve has been able to maintain interest rates so low without any fear of inflation is that they have China acting as a deflationary machine pushing down the price of manufactured goods...in fact, Americans get cheap mortgages for that reason." In any war it is mostly the foot-soldier that gets hurt.
In a money war, shouldn’t one who has no money, like the foot-soldier, escape unscathed?
Why then should I know, let alone worry about a mone-war?
