<< Another form of predictable irrationality is procrastination. >>

Huh?? I always thought that procrastination was very rational.

I mean, why do today what you can do tomorrow, when it comes to unpleasant tasks? Then, at least some of the time, someone else will do them. Or if they don’t get done as often as some people would like, does it really matter?

Is that irrational? (:>/

Well, they say that sociologists are people who discover the bleeding obvious! People have been telling us we are irrational right back to the days of Socrates. What's more interesting is why we find it so hard to accept.

We’re not completely irrational, nor are we irrational in all circumstances - the article rightly point out that assuming rationality works pretty well in many circumstances.

The interesting point is PREDICTABLE irrationality – knowing when and in what ways people are likely to make decisions that are not necessarily logical, consistent or in their own best interest. If we can identify these occasions we’ll be better forecasters, policy makers and social scientists. It’s also quite interesting!
